REQUIREMENT OF PLANTS FOR POTASSIUM.

 

Potassium function in a vegetative organism the multilateral. This element participates in regulation of a physical condition: cellular colloids, stirs up activity of various systems, influences an exchange of organic acids and carbohydrates, participates in processes connected with transformation of energy and exchange nitrogen, stimulates growth of young organs, helps formation of tissues etc. Such plants as a sugar beet and a potato consume a potassium considerable quantity.

The potassium participates in a carbohydrate metabolism. Supply of plants by potassium helps the best assimilation of nitrogen, its transportation to amino acids and fiber. At deficiency of potassium in plants processes of biosynthesis of fibers worsen. The potassium positively influences anatomic growth of organs and tissues of plants, increases growth of leaves and reduces their ageing, raises productivity of crops and quality of cultivated production.

REQUIREMENT OF SEPARATE CULTURES FOR POTASSIUM.

 

Crops differ both in requirements to potassium, and on degree of carrying out of potassium with a crop. The greatest quantity of potassium is taken out from soil by some vegetable cultures, a sugar beet, a potato and other root crops, and as lucerne and a clover.

Cultures with average requirement to potassium: sunflower, corn, bean cultures and wheat.

The least quantity of potassium is taken out with grain crops, a clap, grapes, an apple-tree etc.

 

The general requirement of plants for potassium depends on a development phase. The majority of grain crops intensively acquire potassium in a tillering period – flowerings, and corn – after formation 7-8 sheets and in brush emission. During this period the corn for one days acquires 2,5-5 kg of a potassium from hectare. At tomatoes intensive mastering of potassium coincides with growth of fruits and the harvesting beginning, at carrot (as well as at all root crops) intensive mastering of potassium coincides with root crop growth.

SOIL AS THE SOURCE OF THE POTASSIUM FOR PLANTS.

 

The basic sources of potassium are rocks forming bedrock. The general content of a potassium in superficial horizon of soils of 1,0-2,5% from soil mass. Potassium total in the Bulgarian soils, in borders of 0,47-3,7%. In Bulgaria soils with the high content of a potassium, about 1,6% prevail. The potassium Considerable quantity contains in brown forest soils, alluvial-meadow chernozems and loamy soils, the smaller quantity of potassium contains in yellow, podzol grey-meadow and grey-meadow soils. Under the potassium content the Bulgarian soils can be divided into three groups:

  1. Soils with the high content of a potassium: typical and wash-out chernozems typical and grey-wood soils of Trakijsky lowland, humus-calcareous and the most part of alluvial-meadow soils.

  2. Soils with the average content of a potassium: wash-out grey-wood soils, the dark grey forest soils salted in various degree chernozems. Lower content of potassium in dark grey forest soils Front Balkans, is strong wash-out grey-wood soils in Bansko, Elhovsko etc.

  3. Soils with the low content of potassium: grey and light grey forest soils, podzol grey-wood soils, are dark-wood, meadow, and easy, sour alluvial-meadow soils in Pazardzhisky, Plovdivsky and Smoljansky district.

 

On scientific data of soil with favourable a potassium mode occupy about 65% from cultivated areas in Bulgaria, with less favourable mode – about 20% and with adverse – about 15%. In Bulgaria processed soils with the low content of a potassium make about 500 000 hectares, this figure will strongly increase if to include is dark-wood and stone-wood soils of the Western Bulgaria.

At an intensive agriculture the balance of potassium of soils negative and constantly decreases with increase in productivity of the basic cultures. Potassium regulation by probably entering potash and organic fertilizers, and as unroot or a root top-dressing with OM fertilizer «POTASSIUM HUMATE».

At potassium deficiency tomatoes grow slowly, the plant stalk lignifies. On periphery of the bottom leaves there are pale yellow stains which creep away subsequently between the main ribs. Leaves are turned off to the centre, painted in brown colour, dry up and fall down. Fruits ripen non-uniformly, basically normal red colour, on the ripened fruits there are flavovirent stains which strongly worsen quality of fruits.

 

On a potato on periphery and the top extreme surface of sheet are covered by numerous dark brown stains, and the top surface has a characteristic bronze shade. Leaves are braided to the bottom surface, gradually become brown, wither and prematurely fall down. The plant stalk falls on the earth in the form of red-brown mass. Potato tubers small, productivity low.

On green-head cabbage disease at deficiency of a potassium is shown in the middle of a vegetative period. On a sheet edge develops a chlorosis which in a consequence extends on a considerable part of leaves. The damaged tissue becomes red-brown, dry and at high humidity a bloom of mushrooms of a mould develops.

On corn, first of all on leaves appears flavovirent stains, later leaves get characteristic yellow colour, edges of leaves burn, leaves are braided along the central vein.

On fruit plants first of all appear darkly painted area on periphery of sheet which in a consequence gets yellowy-brown colour and burn. A part of the amazed leaves prematurely fall down and the others are late till late autumn. At fruit crops root system growth is late. Plants form small quantity of fruit buds or do not pass to a flowering phase (do not blossom). Fruits usually small, deformed, are badly painted, with bad palatability, at storage and transportation quickly rot.
Efficiency from a foliar top dressing of crops OM fertilizer «POTASSIUM HUMATE» increases on soils with the low content of a potassium, at high norms of nitric fertilizer, at an intensive agriculture and at cultivation of cultures sympathetic to a potassium. POTASSIUM DEFICIENCY AT CULTIVATION OF TOMATOES.

 

SYMPTOMS: On periphery of old leaves there are swellings. Nerves of leaves remain green, and on tissues between nerves appears a chlorosis. Some breeds of tomatoes on sheet periphery near chlorosis have brown stains. After a chlorosis and a necrosis appear and on young leaves. Strongly amazed plants perish.

THE DEFEAT REASON: Deficiency of potassium in soil. Cultivation of tomatoes on easy, sandy and poor soils on organic substance.
